02 years to the Flitz entertainment brand, which has been in the sky of podcasts.
His name is Rumal Ransika. A young man currently working on the Flitz digital media platform. In addition to that, he is studying for an Advanced National Information Communication Diploma at the National Institute of Advanced Technology Education, otherwise known as the first Podcasts channel in Sri Lanka on the podcast platform and even though it has been in the form of Podcasts programs in Sri Lanka for so long. The owner of the Flitz entertainment brand operates the Apple Podcasts service as a podcast channel.
Podcasts are not new to Sri Lanka. But it is used by a limited number of people. How do you access this platform?
I first came to know about Podcasts from "Malinda Alahakon's" brother's "Tech Track Show" on YouTube. Since then I have done a self-study on this. There I thought to go ahead with new technology as an experiment even if it was something different. At that time, there was no podcast channel in Sri Lanka, only programs. So I thought of doing something different. So I started Flitz as a radio station.
Flitz is something new. Where is the original beginning?
When I first started, I knew about podcasts, but I didn't have the technical knowledge of how to make a podcast. There, I first used YouTube and other internet tools to study it. This was started by collecting the knowledge gained through that. Flitz is something that started to please the audience all over the world. What I want to say is that this is a really easy platform to reach the crowd. And it is a business that anyone can start without any initial money. Due to the convenience of those podcasts and the ability to reach the listeners, I decided to be a part of this platform. That is the beginning of Flitz.
What was the first Flitz program?
I did this work in 2020 during the global quarantine period due to the corona epidemic. Everyone was confined to their homes. So I thought to speak to people's hearts first with my ability. That is why I started my "Love school with rumal" program on 2020.9.18. It is the first romantic podcast show in Sri Lanka.
What are the current programs of Flitz?
There is the "Love school with rumal" program. Also Dhanukasara, Ayesha, and Dhara audio plays. Flitz has done two Drama Crossovers for the first time in the history of podcasts. That is Dhanukasara and Aisha. The second crossover is the combination of the three dramas Dhanukasara, Ayesha, and Dhara. Dhanukasara Drama is the first podcast audio series in Sri Lanka.
Also, the first podcast report program will be our Unexplainable program. At the same time, Flitz Brother Podcasts has a News Network channel. In between, you can listen to more than 10 programs from Flitz.
This work is not something that a single person can do. How many members are there currently?
Yes, I started this alone, but a limited number of people joined me in the beginning. As of today, that number has increased to 55. They are people from all over Sri Lanka. There they are together with us through various departments such as editing, editing, singing, announcement, etc.
If you remember the time spent?
It's now been over two years since I started podcasting with Flitz. We celebrated our birthday at Viharamahadevi Park. In that regard, I would like to say that even though there are podcast programs in Sri Lanka so far, only Flitz is running as a podcast channel in the Apple Podcasts service. And during this period, I was able to work as a creator of podcasts for entertainment. Also, I had the opportunity to create Sri Lanka's first romantic podcast show, Sri Lanka's first podcast audio series, Sri Lanka's first podcast documentary program, and some other creations that are happening for the first time in this field in Sri Lanka.
What are the achievements of Flitz so far?
I am right if I say those things are the most important and exciting achievements of my professional life. In the year 2021, we were able to enter the final round by obtaining the highest number of votes in the best storytelling podcast section of the "Hubhopper Podcast" awards ceremony held by the Hubhopper Institute in India. And we got a second place there.
What are the future prospects?
The Flitz team is ready to provide many fresh and unique entertainment experiences to Sri Lankan listeners and audiences in the future as well as ongoing work.
